Happy Holidays!

Hope everybody's holidays have been going good so far!

Haven't really played much poker lately. Played some online saturday, some live with the cousins on xmas day. Will probably hit some tournies tonight.

Got my Nintendo Wii, man this this is awesome fun. Have only tried Wii sports and Super Monkey ball (which is like Mario Party). Haven't even tried Zelda yet. Went boxing day shopping today, picked up some nice clothes which I rarely do anymore. Planned to play lots of poker these next few days, but I don't know if I'll have the time to. Have to clean up the house, its a mess. Plus all these new games and movies I picked up.

For New Years, going to head down to Niagara, play some cash games. Happy New Years everybody! I'll probably only do one more 2006 recap / 2007 goals post by the end of the year. Unless I win big and do a brag post before then!

New look, you like?

Was bored so started playing around with a new look, and in the middle of labeling all my posts. You like? Comments/Suggestions. Am I missing anything?

Your Poker Game is sooo weak ...

It doesn't seem right when poker players say "Momma jokes" at the tables, so in lieu:

Your Poker Game is sooo weak ...

  • Moneymaker lols at you
  • You can't get staked for a freeroll
  • Your card protector hides under your cards
  • The only black chips you have are the ones from your dirty hands
  • The dealer deals you 4 cards in a texas holdem game
  • Your automatically entered into everybody's friends list
  • The only button on your screen is "call"
  • Party Poker asks you to be their sponsor
  • Everybody seems to want to pay for your Red Bull
  • You think AT is an automatic 3:2 favourite
  • Phil Helmuth invites you to a cash game
  • Helen Keller can pickup your tells
  • You look for players eating Oreos

Got more? Post away!!!

Fallsview Plans

Woohoo, getting excited. Fallsview might actually become a nice place to play tournament poker. The below is quoted from the Fallsview Poker Manager / Tournament Director.

WPT added events - for the 2007 events I have submitted the following,
regular satellites to start as early as May/June, same as last year. We had over 8000 people play in last years satellites.
super-satellites
a one day $1000 buy-in event, 300 people maximum
a two day $2000 buy-in event, 300 people maximum

the WPT Canadian Open will increase to a $4000 buy-in from the $2500 buy-in and will have a cap of 600 people maximum
the NAPC will remain at a $10,000 buy-in with no cap, I expect it to be the largest event on the WPT in 2007
More days, which should equal shorter days. The 2006 numbers were way above what everyone expected, including the WPT. I know they were long days, but that is a good problem to have.
Again, this is what I have submitted, I won't know for quite some time what is approved. We are also looking at expanding the tournament room to 45 tables from the 30 that we had this year, but it's not as simple as buying tables and receiving approvals. If we do go to 45 tables, those caps would move to 450 from 300, and to 900 from 600, but I do not want to go to 45 tables if we can't provide quality staff.

Daily tournaments - as of right now, I have single table SNG's approved, and am working on getting flexible approvals for multi-table tournaments. Here is tentatively what I am planning to offer:

Sunday - $200 (180+20) SNG - Noon to Midnight
Monday - $60 (50+10) SNG - Noon to Midnight
Tuesday - $60 (50+10) multi, 50 max - 2pm and 9pm
Wednesday - $100 (90+10) multi, 50 max - 2pm and 9pm
Thursday - $200 (180+20) multi, 50 max - 2pm and 9pm
Friday - $500 (460+40) SNG - Noon to Midnight
Saturday - $1000 (950+50) SNG - Noon to Midnight
This is all tentative. Single table only on week-ends, I can't spare more tables. I will begin the single tables (trying for this Monday) and wait for the approvals for the multi-table tournaments on Tu-We-Th. I will post more on the starting chips/blind levels as I finish them , but for the Fri/Sat SNG's you can expect a lot of play. Friday 2K starting chips 30 minute levels (3-4 hours), and Saturday 2.5K starting chips with 30 minute levels (4-5 hours). The smaller buy-in events will obviously be less play, but I do want them to be fair, I hate Bingo.

Other tournaments - I am working on larger tournaments on a regular basis, at least quarterly, but possibly as often as monthly, with buy-ins of $1000 or greater. WPT takes up a lot of time, so these may not happen soon. As for CPT events at Fallsview, that will not happen from the looks of things. The CPT is doing a great job, but we have decided to hitch ourselves to the WPT and intend to continue in that direction.

Last Year of my youth

Today mark the beginning of the last year of my youth. I turn 29 today. Not looking forward to 30. To me, I consider that to be a grown up, I'm still a kid at heart. When you turn 30 are you supposed to stop playing video games, and watching cartoons (simpsons/family guy)? I hope not. :)

I guess the poker gods didn't know it was my birthday, not so nice to me on the weekend. I hate the mansion poker dome tourney. I always make the right reads, but luckboxes always prevail. Frustrating. Plus watching that show makes me more angry that players that bad can make it.

No poker for me this week, some but not much. Booya on tuesday to finish up the Poker Night in Canada league. Hope to maintain my 2nd place for $1250. Fri/Sat night I'll prob hit one of the Mansion $ added tournies, have yet to play one yet.

Weekend Results

UB Online Championships Event #1
31/650 - $585
Doubled up early and continued to build my stack. Went dorment for a long period that killed my stack. Ended up losing 99 vs KT on a questionable call by my oponent.

Sun Poker $50k added
About 1.5hr in, QQ < KQ
Mansion Poker Dome
About 1.5hr in QQ < AT, then AK < AJ I think.
Booya Poker CPT Satellite ($1 + WSOP added sats)
Just played garbage. Didn't push with 22 when semi short, would have tripled up.
UB Online Championships Event #3
170ish / 1260
- Never got on a rush. Made some good plays on pots where I doubt I had the best hand. Ended up losing ATs vs A9. Just short of the $, 140. Had 2 board splits where the boards made straights, one AK vs AQ, and the other 77 vs AA after I flopped a set as well.

I think I played well this weekend, good enough to take home some bigger prizes. Didn't get the luck to win. I like the UB tournies, great structures and lots of play. They take quite a long time to play though, so I duno if I"m going to play anymore of them. Probably hit some mansion ones instead.

So you want to win a satellite ...

Last night I played 2 more satellites and won them both, so I figured I'd just make a strategy post about it in case some of you are wondering how I keep winning sats. I think theres 3 stages in a multitable satellite tourney with multiple seat giveaways. For a one seat sat, just play it like you should in a winner take all tourney. Lets call it the beggining, the middle, and the end. A typical satellite should average around 2hrs. Anything more than 3 is just too long, and probably not worth it.

The Beginning - 1st 1/2hr - 45min
Remember how you were taught never to underestimate your opponent. Well throw that away in this case, satellite players are typically baaad. Theres a good chance that you are the best player at that table, so take advantage of it. See a lot of flops, play it hard when you have it, fold if you don't. No tricky plays, no real bluffs, just build your stack as much you can, you'll need it.

The Middle
I don't know what to really say about this section. I think playing tight aggressive is the way to go here. A lot of players still take a lot of chances here, so there will probably be a few suckouts. Thus the need to build a nice stack from the 1st stage. Stay away from the monster stacks unless you have a real hand. Its easy to take $ from them if you do, but if you don't no reason to try. Same thing with the smaller stacks. Unless you are a monster stack, no reason to eliminate the smaller stacks, let the big guys do the work for you. Just play smart poker here, and prepare for the finale.

The End - Final Table
Usually the final table, or the bubble area. Play this like you would in a bubble stage in a normal mtt. Not the pansy way of just trying to make the $, but the play to win way (except not that aggressive). Once again stay away from bigger stacks, if you don't need to pass them in position, don't battle with them. The player(s) to target are the ones sitting on the last few positions for seats. ie) If 4 seats are given, target the guys in 3rd or 4th. Don't play too many hands though, let others make the mistakes, let others be the hero. There are sometimes when I feel invicible, but end up losing valuable chips when I find out I'm not. If you are one of the short stacks, then just go ahead and target anybody with allin moves with decent holdings. Big stacks will be willing to call you with average holdings so it can be a easy double up. The most important thing in satellites is to know how many seats are awarded, and make sure you play for those seats. You don't need to play for 1st, remember that!

I'm not too good with strategy posts, pretty much just rambling off the top of my head. Good luck though, and hopefully you'll be playing on Sunday!

Right now my weekend tourney schedule looks like this:

Friday
UB Online Championships Event #1

Saturday

Poker.com BPT event (Probably won't end up playing again, saturday is my day away from poker)

Sunday
Sun Poker $50k added
Mansion Poker Dome
Booya Poker CPT Satellite ($1 + WSOP added sats)
UB Online Championships Event #3

Play Update

Just an update on what I've been playing lately. Haven't really been into poker this week at all. Mainly just small tourneys and cash games. Playing some Eurolinx, Ladbrokes, and Sun Poker (Pretty much just to get in the monthly $50k added tourney). Playing 2/4 to 5/10 limit, whatever tables are available, just to keep my limit game sharp. Came out ahead for the week, nothing special though. Didn't cash in any of the tournies I played in, though as I mentioned earlier, my mind just wasn't in it. If your not focused, better off just not playing, its cheaper that way.

What I have been into lately is Final Fantasy XII for the playstation 2. Now I haven't played an rpg or a final fantasy game since probably the playstation 1 one. I can't even remember if I enjoyed rpgs or not. All I can say is that this game is amazing! The graphics can rival any xbox360 game right now, and the storyline has been pretty cool so far. Its a nice change from Gears of War and Splinter Cell that I was playing on the xbox360 before. But my xbox is now a brick, and sent it in for repairs. Should get a replacement back this week sometime. Some stupid fall update microsoft sent out corrupted about 1% of xboxs out there. Mine just happened to be one of them. Why couldn't I have won the lottery instead? Oh wait, lemme check my Super 7 ticket.

A satellite entry = $? WTH is going on?

Finally broke my long draught of not being able to turn hard earned satellite entries into significant cashes. Full Tilt FTOPS Main Event. $500 buyin. approx 2500 entries, 1st place paid out $220k. I played 3 satellites to try to get in, all turbos, and all today. A $4, a $100, and a $24. I got in with the $24, though I played good enough to get in all 3. Bubbled both the 4 and 100, the 100 I took some nasty beats.

Onto the main event. I thought I would finish early. Crippled early when EP min raises, i'm on the BB with K6s. I call. K6J flop. I actually put him on aces after but tried to get him to go over top of me. Didn't work and the river was a J, wasting my top and bottom pair.

Got as low as 1500 and was around 2k by the 1st break. Starting was 3k. Gradually built it up, but my biggest chip gainer was 99 vs AJ on a A9x flop. I played differently this tourney, pretty much just solid poker. Didn't play as many hands as I've been playing lately, but I just didn't get any of those suited connectors that I like.

The rest of the tournament I was what Kugr called "The Dominator" Everytime all my chips or all somebody elses chips went all in, I had them dominated. The only hands where i had to play catchup was AQs vs JJ (smaller stack) and my eventual out hand.

Once I got deeper into the $, I ran out of hands to play. When I got placed at a table with a bunch of big stacks, I became hesitant to steal, pretty much just waiting for hands. Never ended up doubling up again, and eventually lost AKs vs 33. Flop came 33x, and i said good night.

Shipped $1,346 though, which is now my highest online cash winning. I'm still noticing flaws in my game though, especially during late stages if I don't have a nice stack. I guess i'll have to practice making it deeper in more big tournies!

Thanks to the railbirds!

GSP = Ship It!!!

George St. Pierre owns Matt Hughes!
Complete destruction. Can't believe Hughes goes down twice cause a toenail flicked his balls. I don't think anybody can take the belt away from GSP!

This Sunday, I Vow to ...

Win or Big $ in one of these ....

1) Poker.com $20k
2) Mansion Poker Dome Seat
3) PokerStars Million
4) Full Tilt Ftops Event #2
5) Some other tourney > $10k prize pool

Time to step it up, I don't want to be satellite king / big game choker anymore. Last night I won 2 out of 5 tournaments I played. Sounds good, but my take home was 0$. Yeah. As much as I hate spending hours and hours playing an online tourney, I do much better in deeper stack tournies with good blind structures. I can't play Tribecca style tournies at all. Big aggressive moves cost all my chips. Last night in the Booya NHL ticket giveaway, headsup was sick. My buddy was I dunno 15:1 underdog. He came back to take the chip lead, then lost it. Eventually was knocked out TT vs Q8 even though he flopped a set!!!

Tonight or tomorrow i'll post up a Casino/Poker hot bonus post, haven't done that in a while.

And before I go I have to do a quick plug for Poker Source Online. On the service/support side, you just can't compare. If you want a good laugh, go read the eCasinoDeals forum, its a complete joke. That scumbag owner has outstanding orders from like May. He barely responds to support posts. But I think this is the jewel. Those who ordered something simple such as an amazon gc have been surprised to see a poker table top show up at their door instead of their gift card! Talk about cocksucking, this guy instead of spending $ to order gcs, he's unloading his excess inventory. Man this guy fattened his wallet the past few months and is going to bail!! I like taking care of my peeps, pso is the same way, this guy is scum. Spread the word!

Showing your hand, sometimes it works!

Last night in the FullTilt $10k, which ended up being almost $20k, I got my ass worked, big time. Nice stack, 2nd highest on the table, about 30/200 at this point, I decide to tango with the table chip leader, Canadian poker pro Lynette Chan.

Blinds 200/400
Lynette raises to $1k in MP.
Me in SB with KQs reraises to 2500.
BB Folds.
She Calles.

Flop: Axx

CB of 2500, she calls.

Turn: Q

I play like whats in between her legs and give up on the hand and check the turn, even though it improves my hand. She bets out, I fold. She shows T9.

That puts me in a sour mood, and I lose my aggressiveness which got me all those chips. Had to settle for bottom level money. Screwed up my Stars 180 games as well which I felt I could have one, settled for 4th. Not very Booya!

Razor Collectables Poker Cards

I dunno why, I bought a box of these off of eBay. Collectable I guess. Not sure why I like to collect things, I just do. Ended up with a Josh Arieh and Chris Moneymaker autographed cards. Yeah.

Collecting sports cards was fun as a kid. Opening these packs up brought back memories.

Dry Action?

How is everybody's experience playing on sites without Americans? Played some Sun Poker cash games, and I thought it was much looser before, even with all the bonus whores. I couldn't get that much action even on the $200nl SH tables. I guess that was a good thing for me though, I ran into 4 sets and a straight flush (with me hold A high flush, a made straight, and a Royal draw). Ended up down for the night, after several consecutive positive cash game results.

Was also hoping that guarantees tournies would stay at the same levels for a bit longer, they havent. Party big sunday is down to $200k, The Sun daily $5k is now $2k, Titan has cut most of their guarantees in half. Not too happy with titan right now, they removed their 8pm est tourney that qualifies for the tournament titan. Now the only weekday tournies are in the afternoon. I complained to them and they said they would put it back, but that was last weekend, and I haven't seen an update to their site yet. Plus their jackpot sitngos take foreever to fillup now, and they've gotten tighter. I think I"m done with those.

Continuing to build my stack

Played some more tourneys last night, but still looking for some good results. Building my stack doesn't seem to be a problem, I guess I'm trying to hold hit. At one point I was in the top 3 in chips in 4 out of 5 tournies. Taking some beats to bring me down though.

Me 10k, Villian 8k. AQ. Flop Axx. Check, Continuation bet, allin. I fold as I'm new to the table. I'm pretty sure I did have the best hand though.
A few hands later, same thing happens with the same villian. Except flop is Qxx. This time I call and he flips over TT. Runner runner flush kills my stack.

So out of the 5 tournies I played, could only cash 2 of them, and only 1 FT worth $200 for my 7th. I'm still sucking in the pokersourceonline league. Omenic won last night. I think I saw every flop last night but couldn't hit a single one.

BTW, got a RAF bonus for Jerry H and Ganesh G for the BetWWTS bet last week. Message me your picks.

Beta Blogger is cool. Instant publishing. My cookies aren't working properly though, so I have to relogon each time.

Attacking the weak during late stages

I haven't done an analysis/strategy post in a while, so here is one and let me know what you think.

My recent chip building tournament strategy has been working pretty good lately. I've had good early success and pretty often have held the chip lead in early to mid stages of an mtt. I'm noticing that my current struggles are in the late mid stages, which I would describe as pre-bubble. Not quite the bubble period, but the portion right before it. Final 3rd table, or if 20 pay, in the 40s, etc...

The hands I'm getting burned on is when I'm being overly aggressive preflop. When I'm sensing weakness in position, with almost any 2, I've been unleashing my fury upon their limped biscuits. Often times I'm fighting weakness with weakness. Normally they fold, but sometimes they call. And lately, they've hit their flops. Perhaps I'm doing it too much, and should be more selective as to hands to do it with. One thing I know I shouldn't be doing but still do it is with Ace rag. I would much rather being doing it with a connected that a hand that I will most likely be dominated if called.

One hand I remember from the weekend, 30 left, and I'm somewhere 5-10th in chips. 2 limpers and I'm on the button with A3. I pop it to a big number (can't remember the exact number but it was more than 2xpot). 2nd limper calls, which tells me most likely holding is a small pp. Flop comes 245, jackpot! Limper bets out, I push, he calls. He had 66 and rivers a 3. Am I making the right reads? yes. Am I playing a good aggressive game? yes. Should I be playing big pots like this to continue building my stack? I dunno, discuss.

Bad Beat Thursday

Wow this night sucked.

Paradise WPT Niagara final, finished in 19th. 1st gets seat, next 3 get 1-5k. I play a pretty good game, have about average stack. Raised preflop the last 2 hands, and then I get JJ. www.ihatejacks.com Regular raise, i get reraised about to about 3x my bet, and I push. He thinks about it for a while, then calls. I hold the Black Jacks, he holds the Reds. Flop = 2 hearts, Turn = Heart, do I even need to tell you the river?

Sept in Review

So Sept is done, and I guess I did ok. I still fell short in my $8k in 2 months target. To be on target I needed to make $3,934. I made $3,544. -10%. I blame a lack of playing time though, as I still had a good $62/hr in 57 total hours. What was disappointing was my MTT figures. A bunch of cashes, final tables, a 2nd, a win, but no major wins. Couldn't break 4 digits in any of them. The good thing was that I was a plus on all the categories, cash games, sit n gos, mtts, casino, and others. I guess extra $ for sportsbetting helped!

Do I think I'm going to hit my target, I dunno. I don't think I'm going to be able to play today, none next sunday for sure (Thanksgiving), and not too sure about the following sunday as well. Might have to play some bigger friday tournies instead then.

Good luck gambling in October, and a big FAWK YOU to all republicans who are backing this ban!

Weekend Update

Big Sunday Tournament day was pretty much a disappointment

Results
1) PokerShare $25k $100 - Busted when Ace high flush chased a runner runner.
2) Paradise $40k $30R&A - Busted short of $. 1 Beginning rebuy, 1 addon.
3) PokerShare $5k $50 - Busted out 8th. JTs vs J9. I went allin with with 2 ragged flop and 2 diamonds on the board. Didn't improve.
4) Titan $3k $10 - Busted out 15th. Should have had my 2nd straight Final Table for that Titan Tournament promotion. AK vs AT, all in preflop. I was 14/15 but everyone was pretty close. 4 to a flush did me in. This pissed me off.
5) Mansion Poker Dome Final - Busted out 36th. No hands to talk about, I just never hit any flops.
6) Dream Poker Cash - I suck, lost $100. Never again will I play a Prima cash game, I promise this time. Only reason I did this time was for that $15k freeroll.
7) Pinnacle - $50 on the Giants +3. Eli pulls it off in the 4th qtr!

Good and bad results, was about -$115 on Sunday. With regards to my $8k 2 month target, I'm still slightly ahead. Actually doing pretty well considering all the days I haven't been playing. Only played 4/7 days this week. On a $36/hr rate. I still need a nice tourney win though.

1 Down 2 to Go

Titan Poker has a promo right now, if you Final Table 3 of their specified tournies in a row, you are entered into a $1million 20seat tourney with $25k guaranteed. Interesting promotion, though I think it may take a while for the 20 seats to fill up. Well I played my 1st one tonight, finished a nice 2nd for $400ish. It was only a $10 $2k guaranteed. I think I was the best player at the final table, I kept mixing it up. Would have had a commanding chip lead if dude had not decided to call my allin preflop with his KTs against my JJ. That put me at the low range of stacks, but I fought back up. The eventual winner was Mr. A Rag, I dunno how many times he got lucky with that. When it came to headsup he had a 3.5:1 advantage. My eventual outage was K8 vs AK. K8x on the flop, slowplayed it to the river. River produced an A. I'm out, oh well.

Also managed to qualify for the Mansion Poker Dome Final again this sunday. My PokerStars WCOOP qualifiers were a different story though. Busted out in 3 of them, including one rebuy one which I thought would be a cinch. I was doing pretty good, but then I realized it was a turbo one. I had a nice stack after the addon, but didn't realize how fast the blinds were moving up. Was playing 4 other tables at that time, and I just screwed it up. I don't think I'll be playing WCOOP this year. Not ready to directly buyin to the events, hopefully next year.

Duck, Duck, Duck, Goose!

Actually it was more like, Bubble, Bubble, Bubble, Win! for me last night.

Bubbles
1) WPTOnline Canadian Poker Open satellite (stt). Top 2 move to the next stage, 3rd gets $ back. I came 3rd. No biggie, went in with short stack, outkicked with Qx.

2) Bluffers League (small mtt). Top 3 pay. Came in 5th. Big hand, AK lost to KJ when KJ flopped broadway. Next hand pushed with QJ, called with 98s. Flopped an 8.

3) Poker Savvy Freeroll (small mtt). Top 3 pay. Came in 5th. KQ vs K2s. Buddy calls my pf raise, Q high + 2 hearts on the table. He pushes, I call. River Heart. GG

Wins
1) Poker in Canada WPT Niagara satellite (stt). Won, moved on to stage 3 ($210). I had 1 suckout TT vs QQ. Most of the other times my better hands held up.

I should have cashed in those mtts though, was playing well enough to.

The Good and the Bad

Here is my weekend recap

Good
MTT play: Played in 6 mtts over the weekend and cashed in on 4 of them.
- Empire $20k - 200ish/2500. Bottom of the $
- PokerShare: $10 rebuy. Finished 11th. $80
- Mansion Poker Dome Final: Finished 7th. $144. Top 2 would have gotten seats.
- Stars WCOOP sat (limit): Busted midway
- Paradise WPT Qualifier - won rebuy mtt
- Paradise WPT Final - Finished 90th

I started to get into rebuy tournies, and so far im 2for2. Not going to try out the big ones yet as I don't think I've played enough yet, but I'm liking them now. I think the key is to pickout the crazy rebuyers. Those who are going to always rebuy, and for some reason only rebuy the 1 buyin. I think I knocked out the same guy 5 times to build up my stack. Was calling and pushing him with garbage where I knew I would still have the edge. Ace rags, or if I made a pair on the flop I would still push him as I knew he would call with nothing.

I also played a couple home games on saturday at a friends BBQ. Won both of those! :)

Bad
So I've gone pretty deep in my mtts lately, problem is I'm not winning. Making good decisions and picking my spots. Dissappointed in my mansion result, considering the field I should have won a spot on the show. Crippled myself early, then got back up, then back down with TPTK when I tried isolating the opener, and last to act pushed with his set. Odds forced me to call. One of the eventual seat winners was a donkey. He was my doubleupper. Though he was also the one who decided to call with his 66 underpair with 5 overcards and I was playing like I had paired my Ace.

With the Paradise event, I just couldn't hit any flops. The only big hand I would have won is with TT. EP standard raise, I call in MP, LP big raise, EP push, I fold, LP call. AA vs KK. T on the flop. I eventually went out AKs vs TT. 2 hearts on the flop, but I couldn't hit either the turn or the river. Goodbye. I think this tourney started too late, 10pm on a Sunday night.

The PokerShare rebuy tourney I felt I should have won as well. Was playing good, but the blinds just got too high. Was a turbo game. Lost 1/2 my stack with TT vs AK (weird, I lost on both sides of this scenario). That left me with 2M. Tried to steal with someone who just had me covered, didn't work.

Conclusion
I'm planning to play some Real $ events this week. My plan is too only Sat into "Live events" and buy directly into $ events to save time. Other than big $ events, $500+. I'll still play Pokerstars Double Shootouts though, I think they are still worthwhile. I decided not to play the Stars 1mil this week just due to the start time of the Paradise WPT. 4pm was my Pokerdome and 10pm for the WPT event. I'd be playing all day and would be worn out at 10. Will definately be playing more Rebuy events as well. Try it out, I used to hate them, but they are growing on me.

Hopefully all the emails of encouragement will help me out ...

RIP Steve Irwin

RIP Steve Irwin, The Crocodile Hunter. Crikey thats some terrible news, I enjoyed watching his programing. I think that if I grew up in Australia, I'd be very much like him. I'm an animal lover, especially the dangerous and reptillian variety. At least he left the earth doing something he loved.

I shouldn't have played yesterday. 4-5hrs of pretty much wasted time. Finished at break even, +/-$5 or so. What a waste of time. Should have stuck to playing some new xbox game I picked up, Saints Row. Supposed to be some Grand Theft Auto clone/killer. Pretty cool so far, just finished stealing ho's from other pimps. My character doesn't really look like me though, not like Tiger Woods where I could make it pretty close.

Minor Day 2 & 3 + Ben's out!

Not much play the last 2 days, had stuff to do. About 2 hrs alltogether. -$43 in cash games, +$72 from 2 Titan Rios, and +$70 from InterCasino.

$351 Total
$393 Target
-11% to Target. Not playing hurts.

On a side note, get your hedges in for the Mansion bet. Ben Roethlisberger is going to miss the season opener! Unless you have faith in Charlie Batch. :)

$8k Challenge Day 1

61 Days between Sep 1 and Oct 31, which translates into $131 profit per day to reach $8k.

Cash Games - Poker in Canada 5/10L, Sun 2/4L, 1/2NL
= +$17.
Summary: Pretty boring play, nothing exciting, was really concentrating on it.

SNG - Titan Rio $24
= -$24
Summary: Busted out 4th, committed myself with KQo

MTT - Empire $20k Guar, Stars $20 180, Stars DS $1mil sat
= +$269
Summary: Stars 180 busted out early with TT. Empire finished in 23rd. 2500 players. Could have done better but made some questionable laydowns. Had 88, and laid down to a BB allin protect. Eventually short stacked, went in on the button with A7o. I have to lay off the Arag in short stack situations. Won my Stars Double shootout pretty easily.

Day 1 Total = +$262 200% on target.

Aussie Aussie Aussie Oye Oye Oye

Wife wants to take a vacation next year, sometime between Feb and April. A 2wk package through Australia, New Zealand, and Tahiti. Early estimation looks like it will be about $8k. Therefore...

** New Goal - $8k before I book. I'm guessing we book by November the latest if were going in Feb, so I'll set a 2 month time frame starting Sep 1. I'm planning most to make most of it via tourney play, so time to step it up.

btw, I was on tv last night but I missed it. Anybody download it or know a good torrent site to find it? WTF happened to that pokerbay place?

Headsup: Unlucky or just sucky?

Not sure whats wrong with my headsup game. Lately I've been getting a lot of 2nds. Yesterday I got 3.

1) A dinky $380 freeroll with 38 players. Was bored. Was about 2:1 underdog when HU started. Got close to even until dude catches AK 3 times within 10 hands. Lost it all with a k high flop, KJ vs AK. Ended up with $70

2) WCOOP $530 satellite. 20+ players. This one I can take. Was 10:1 underdog! Ended up with $0

3) STT. I had this table absolutely figured out. Only lost $ when I got sucked out. Was 2:1 underdog entering HU. Went up about 3:2, and then all my $ went in PF, AK vs QJ. J on the flop. Fought back to close to 3:2 underdog, then lost it all 88 vs T8. Ended up with $15 (Party monster)

My winning % used to be huge headsup. I normally play pretty aggressive in the SB. The only cards I fold preflop is if I get a 2 or a 3 w/o an A or a K. I dunno if its variance, bad luck. I don't think I'm overly aggressive, I have my spidy senses when I think I'm being slowplayed. Oh well, I guess 2nd is better than "participant", but I think it feels better when you go out early.

On the positive note, +€150 from gamebookers and +$75 from Party Casino.

Pokerxfactor WSOP qualifier Hand History

Wanted to try out this pokerxfactor hand history playback. If your bored here is my wsop main event qualifier hand history. Please note, my vpip was pretty much non existant, I barely played any hands, so keep the speed at max!

Poker Stars 2006 WSOP qualifier

Please make any comments as well, watching it again I noticed a weird fold I made early.

Edit.. doh, I guess I can't share full mtts publically unless you signup. I think free registration is ok as well.

I'm so jealous

Congrats go out to hit21hit / Timex for taking home $330k, yes thats right, $330k for his Paradise Power Final Table showing. It was a $1million stt rewarded to Power leaderboard winners. Each player was guaranteed $10k, and the $1mil was choppable 3 handed. 3 handed, he had 27% of the chips and in 2nd place, but managed to negotiate $310k for himself. They played it out with the winner taking home the final $20k, which he won. This shows the power of building a bankroll through poker and casino whoring. Even as late as early this year, hit21hit was casino whoring. Built up his bankroll, started training and practicing his mtt play, and now look at him. Probably $400k in tourney winnings this year, P5 Triple Crown winner, and don't be surprised if he makes the top 10 by the end of the year.

In terms of my tourney play, it stinks. Played the FTOPS event#6, NL6handed - Deepstack. Was playing pretty solid, started building up my stack, until the last hand before the break. Sitting at 5700 chips, I find AQ utg, after just transferring to this new table. I should have just laid it down and taken my shit, instead I 4xbb and I get 2 callers. Flop comes Q53, and SB leads out with a almost pot bet. Now I decide to tango with this big stack and double his bet. Other guy folds, and then this guy pauses and reraises. I lay down TPTK, and he tells me he had 53 as they were joking about that hand before. I told him I had JJ.

A few hands later I find myself with AK in lp. Same big stack limper, I raise, BB calls, and limper calls. Flop comes KT9. Check, check, 3/4 bet. BB calls, limper folds. Fock this guy has QJ. But stubborn me bets the turn anyways, BB goes allin, and I call. QJ. Game over. That sucked, my gut was right and I didn't listen to it. Was confident before playing this event too, I love the short handed game.

Finally Caught my Monster

After 15 tries, finally qualifed for the Party Poker Weekly $100k Monster. I can't remember the last time I've done so poorly (result wise). I think I'm playing fine, its just I'm playing too many of these speed $5+1 were it can be luckfests. I actually won 2 times, but realized afterwards when trying to register for the monster that I had just won a regular sng. Might go back to $20 ones for this promo, as the low levels can get frustrating.

and congratulations to Jamie Gold for winning the 2006 World Series of Poker. $12 million, unlimited sponsorship, and a sick bracelet.

Monster Hunter

Not much poker play lately. Went to Ottawa over the long weekend for a wedding. The only poker play I've done has been chasing the Party Poker Monster. Man I can't win a SNG. I think I'm 0fer7, with 2 headsup losses. I don't think I'm playing bad either, favourite (most of the time heavy) going in, loser coming out. Its been a while since I've gone 7 SNGs without a win. Mostly speed ones, I might go back to normal ones. I joined a holdem one by mistake, should have won that but I laid down a top pair + 4 high flush draw. Would have been good by the river, oh well.

On the Casino front, still doing the InterCasino reload. So far so good, can't believe the millionaires jackpot hasn't hit yet. 3.8 million. Dash Casino was in and out, i don't know how Omenic keeps winning those slots. Haven't hit a good scatter in a long time.

Doyle's room has also opened up qualifiers for the WPT Niagara.

WSOP: The dream is over

After an anxiety filled morning, I finally got started off with my event. Seated with 5 other internet qualifiers (at least) and a no show. No show turned out to be Robert Williamson III. Great guy, chatted it up with all of us. In fact the whole table was pretty good. Had one loose calling station get knocked out by the first break or so. Never had any hands to take advantage of him though. 3rd hand in the tourney I held KK, only to be halted by a flopped A. Played pretty much even poker up until the 2nd break. Then it was all downhill.

My flops weren't hitting, and just lost confidence in my preflop raising. Started trying to see cheap flops too often instead of taking control. This was a big weakness in my game, making $ when I can't find online dummies to donate. I'm sure I'll get more experienced as I play more quality tournies, but right now my aggression level isn't where I want it to be. I don't think I bluff reraised at all tonight, and after I stopped being the aggressor, by big hand raises were getting folded.

One hand that hurt during this downward spiral was cutoff 3x raise to 600, button (me) call with 88, sb raising to 1500, BB fold, cutoff call, I call. Flop 2d4h6h. SB checks, cutoff pushes. That was going to be my move. Both have me covered. At that point I had 5k left. The only hands I could have hoped he had were 33, 55, or 77, or AKQh. I decided he had be beat so i folded, SB called with TT, and cutoff showed QQ. Not sure why TT was played that way, but oh well. Harmless turn, river was the dreaded 8. Man I didn't want to see that.

Final hand for me was me reraising a weak raise with AQ. Turns out the dude was begging for a call as he flipped over KK. At this point I was down to about 2.5k at 150/300 25 ante. I folded 44 to a preflop raise a hand or two earlier. Maybe that was the better hand to push.

Oh well, learned a lot, experienced a lot, and hopefully I'll be able to use it next year or another tourney soon. Have to look at my whole tournament game over again. I can't rely on poor players to chip me up early so I can play my game. All in all, Vegas and the WSOP was a blast, but going to head home soon. Have to check what flights there are.

Insomnia: T - 6hrs

6 hrs to go before I start, and I can't sleep. Didn't really sleep at all last night, but at least i'm not that tired. Went to the Bluff Magazine party at the Hard Rock last night. Good party, lot of pros showed up. Doyle, Lane Flack, Liz Lieu, John Phan, Devilfish, Gavin Smith, Dutch Boyd, and more.. Emeka Okafur of the Charlotte Bobcats made an appearance, he was at least 2 ft taller than the next tallest in the room! Only stayed till like 11 though.

Last few days I've spent it "touristing Vegas" with the wife. Wow, can't believe the amount of walking we did. Pretty much visited every hotel on the strip, made it as far south as NYNY.

PSO party was cool, finally met some faces to match with members! Tons of gifts, cash, and prizes were given away. Open bar and tons of food. Unfortunately, couldn't stay too long, had dinner plans. Went to Circo after, food was amazing. Oysters were the shiznit!!! Treasure Island buffet was good as well. mmmm Crab legs.

Time to go back to bed, lie down for another 1.5 hrs or so.

Hopefully I'll have live updates on somewhere

Vegas Day 2

Got internet in my hotel room now :)

Day 2 started off with Onion and I checking out the RIO. All I can say is WOW. The convention was sweet, free swag everywhere, paradise/betus girls :), a lot more booths than I imagined. We left there with more clothes than I packed. The conference center where the playing takes place is massive. Table after table after table. I'm playing on table# 179, day 4. Right on the edge, where I can be the one of the first one's to rush for the bathrooms!

The rest of the day was spent doing a lot of walking in the 100deg heat. Very tiring.

I played a couple of tournies at Treasure Island later. 1st was a $50 stt. Super Turbo. 1500, 10 min blinds. Not much you can really do, but play fast. Went out 5th. Then I played a $60 freezout w/ alternatives. 30 people, 2000, 20mins. I thought the structure looked a bit nicer, but it really wasn't. After an hr, the blinds were 200/400. I got knocked out the last hand before the first break. BB mucked by mistake, so there was a freeplay on his blinds. utg +1 goes allin, has me covered by like 25 chips, and I call with AK. He had 77, and flops a 7. Game over. Weird thing is they started a whole new table for alternatives during the break. So they buyin full, get 2000 chips, and the blinds are 200/400. Talk about crap shoot.

Night time wasn't to nice either. Was overjoyed earlier when I saw the PHO restauraunt right in my hotel! Too bad it tasted more like POO in water. No not that bad, but it would easily be the worst in Toronto.

Played at the Wynn again later that night. Was mostly up, then went down, when boards were flushable, and then lost a $400 pot when dude fills his gutshot on the river. But not after he says the magic words after calling my turn bet: "I think I'm just donating here, I'm tired, ok I'll call" In other words he's saying "I'm a donkey, but because I said I'm tired, I'm not a donkey" Decided to call it a night after that, didn't want to go on tilt. Though I decided to dump $40 into a Wheel of Fortune slot on my way out. Got 4 spins, 25, 25, 30, 50. Not cool.

Vegas Day 1

Quick post, only bought a few minutes!

Plane a little delayed, settled into Imperial Palace at about 1am. Went to the Wynn to meet up with DOnion to play some cash games. 1/3 NL, no max buyin. 1hr in, guess who shows up to play.

Shannon Elizabeth (Pie Girl!) and Boston Rob (Rob & Amber - Survivor)

Holy shit, its pretty cool in Vegas!

Ray Emery goalie for the Ottawa Senators was on my plane as well, I think.

Down a couple bucks for the night, didn't play the deep stack rich kids game. Theres one hand where I should of though. Shannon raised to 9, Rob put it to 45, another rich kid calls, and I'm sitting there with QQ. I folded. Its a fold I dunno if I would have made if alert, but this was on my 24th hr. :)

Should have wireless access at Treasure Island starting tonight!

Will be at the Rio at around 11am, and then I dunno what else is planned.

WSOP I am in!!!!!

Will write about it later, too excited. Was tense. Pushing with JJ gave me a heart attack. Was as high as 20th place. Doubled up late with AA. That was huge. Didn't play the rest of the tourney.

Last day I was planning on playing wsop qualifiers too!

Anti Kill Phil

Blair Rodman and Lee Nelson, are 2 greedy bastards who deserve to eat shit and die! No just kidding, but their Kill Phil book is turning poker to what what the Anti-Poker congressmen want, a game of luck.

Another WSOP satellite, another disappointing finish. 3rd. 1st place I think got a seat. Who knows if I'm getting anything. Final event of the bluff poker tour. I played pretty good poker, came back from 256 chips after my KK got molested by A2. Was the final table chip leader and continued my aggression throughout. Overplayed my TT against AA when it got down to 3. New I should have laid it down, dude bluffed with small bets, not allin bets.

The eventual winner took me out. My AQ was anally probed hard core by his AJ, when he hit his 4 card flush. This nemesis of mine relates back to my first paragraph. He was a Kill Phil player. I only saw one non preflop allin from him, and that was when he had KK. He won every single allin he was involved in, with several times getting very lucky. Completely took my ability to play post flop away from him. One time I folded 88. Going to have to reread that book to see where I really stood with that hand. Normally an easier fold with respect to the amount of chips involved. The book itself is pretty crappy, though there were some good points in it regarding allin moves. I don't think the authors even use it, but a lot of online players sure are!

This Sunday is probably my last day of WSOP qualifying, going to cut it off then and start my cash game challenge. Pokerstars 150 seat guar $350, Full Tilt 100 seat guar $500, Sun Poker 10 seat guar $140, Ace Flush 1 seat freeroll. Also have that Dream Poker $50k on sun I think. Will play qualifiers tonight, if I don't get in I will just buyin to the Pokerstars and Sun events.

and yeah, I got my 21.com withdraw. Risk free works!

Piece of shit computer

I come home and my main computer doesn't turn on. There was a big storm in my area, might have killed something. The light on my motherboard doesn't turn on. Must be fried. That or my power supply isn't working. Any way to test other than putting my toungue on the end of it? :) Prob my motherboard though. What a waste of $. Stupid Asus, not even 2 years old either.

Blogroll Additions + New Cash Game Challenge (What's my level?)

First of all, if you read this blog and I haven't added you, please leave a message in my comments. There's a few that I've read in the past and been meaning to add, i'm just lazy and forgetful.

Since everybody else has some sort of cash game challenge, I might as well start one myself. It will be 2 challenges mixed into one, and the goal is to find my most profitable level.

The rooms: Either UB,Paradise, Party, or PokerShare
Game Type: 1 NL table, 1 limit table (Not enough action on PL)
The Limit: Starting at $50 buyin.
Moving up: Once I double up on my limit table or quadruple up on my NL table, I move up.

This challenge is for both Full Tables and 5/6 max short handed tables. If I bust, I start over again. I might change my moving up levels, might be too low to moveup, but I also don't want to to be a long challenge or else I might lose interest. :)

Was thinking of doing a sitngo challenge, but I might as well just play Rios or Steps if I'm going to do that.

Almost ready to give up the WSOP chase

MTT last night, 1st gets a seat. 14th place.

Hand Analysis
Me: 6900
Villian: Had me covered.
300/600 blinds

Me EP+2 raise to 2k with AQo. LP reraises to put me almost allin. LP tight player.

Gamble now or later?

MTT just now, 1st gets a seat. 16th place

Me = avg stack. Blinds 100/200.

UTG raises to 500. MP raises to 1k. Me with KK goes allin for 3k. Me+1 calls. UTG calls, Me-1 calls.

UTG = AA, Me-1 = AK, Me = KK, Me+1 = QQ

QQ wins. Was worried that Me-1 could have had AA. Didn't think UTG had AA as last time he did a limp in reraise allin. WTF was QQ doing? Oh well I vowed to play to win and gamble more this one, but I think I should have let it go. Pretty weak field. I should have definately let it go then, I could have outplayed these guys post flop.

My chase is almost over, almost....

To Break or not to Break

Getting frustrated by tourney beats, I want to take a break, but I dunno if I can. That poker.com championship looks too juicy, was planning to go to Australia next year anyways, free would be sweet. I think I've given up on my WSOP goal for this year. Bloggerpokertour result yesterday did it in for me. KK vs 77 had it held up would have put me in 2nd in chips with 22 or so players left. Could have ran the table. Instead it put in in a downward spiral of bad luck. AQ vs A8 did me in for good. Whoopee I get a hat and a shirt, maybe a rubber band to go with it. I think I might still play a Full Tilt 100seat WSOP qualifier though. I also can't take a break as I have to play Dream Poker. I think if you earn 3 dream points or so you qualify for their $15k freeroll. Speaking of freerolls I've decided that I would no longer play anymore freerolls that are less than $10k or they give out a seat. Maybe $5k. I'm spoiled, ungrateful, I'm thinking its just not worth the time unless you win. Unless theres like 20 players or so, then its all good. Sorry for the ramble post, too lazy to format or do any linking. Have a headache, and need to goto a wedding in a couple of hours. Hungry now, cya. Happy belated birthday Canada.

Bluff, Bluff, oh why do I make these stupid Bluffs...

It never fails me that I make 1 stupid bluff in a tourney that costs me a nice stack of chips. Now theres nothing wrong with a big bluff, its just when I bluff when it doesn't make sense to. Either bluffing when theres absolutely no fold equity for my opponent, or bluffing on a board that wouldn't make sense. Did one of each last night, one cost me headsup in a double shootout 1st round, then 2nd I bubbled out of the final table in a 2tabler.

You'll never win! - STFU biatch

Funny end of the night RIO sng I played last night. Down to 3 players left, and I was down to like 2M after the blind change. So I proceeded to do a lot of allins. Some chick then says "You'll never win if you play like that" What? She just put a target on her back. I let her have it, nobody tells me I can't win! I continued to steal her blinds, going allin. Now this chick was a complete useless lucky player. Her stack was completely built up by calling premium hands with Axs and hitting the flush or 2 pairs. If she didnt' have an A, she wouldn't call anything though. One had I had a 44 in the BB. Both limped, I went allin, and she thought and thought, even asked the other guy if she should call with TT. She ended up folding it. I told her there's no way you had TT. She said she swears to god she did. So I continued to berate her some more, what kinda of tard (sorry just watched The Ringer last night) lays down a TT. She then claims shes been playing proffessional for 3 years now. I told her, her husband must be broke now. "Oh he's a doctor" Yes he must be broke now. Eventually the other guy knocked her out, 2 pair vs A high, and then I disposed of him quite handily.

Played 4 sitngos in total yesterday, won 3. Rio, Full Tilt 2table to get a $75 tourney token (which I will use on a wsop 100seat qualifier), and Full Contact Poker Classic qualifier. Donked my way out of a Party WSOP step sng. Couldn't find any mtts I wanted to play so I just stuck to those.

Finally a 1st!! - "In order to live, you must be willing to die"

and this is what I won (never mind the $, it was a $1 buyin cause they couldn't get it as a freeroll)

More importantly is what I learned from my MTT play.

I played this one completely without fear of busting. No prizes that I really wanted to win, and just played it just cause I felt like playing some poker. Though I never had to suckout either. My only close call was a rivered K, AK vs QQ.
Headsup, was probably the best headsup I have seen myself play. Down approx 6:1 I took a Phil Ivey approach. Everytime I was on the button, I raised. My call and fold was about the same, 3 times each at most. Many times I would get the blinds, many times it was call, check, bet, fold. I was reraising him like crazy if he tried to steal my blinds. I'm pretty sure I got him so frustrated that in the end, I never put him allin, always got him to go allin when I felt I had the best hand.

Compare that with my Doyle's room Bounty tournament which I was playing at the same time. Not sure why I played it, just did. I had an ok stack, doubled up once, but still made a questionable laydown which I think turned it around. Now if it was a deep stack tourney, this laydown might not be so bad, but at the quick blind structure of the Tribeca tables, I think I screwed up.

Holding AQ I raised preflop in MP, might have been a limper but he's out of the picture. Bigger stack blind calls. Flop of 9TJ, 2 clubs. Blind puts in a bet that would lead to me being pot committed. A fold puts me at average. I ended up laying it down with the reasoning that the field is so weak, I'll get my chances to win pots later. What I failed to realize was that the blind structure would not let me play too much poker later. If I had doubled up there I would have had a nice stack and the opportunity to dominate the rest of the way.

Lesson learned, and I'm ready tonight for whatever mtt I play. Nothing going on this weekend, have a saturday wedding and a sunday baptism.

I vow not to mix cash games with tournament play!

Mixing cash games and tournaments are hazardous to your poker play. I shouldn't be doing it, but I do it anyways. When I do I start mixing in cash game plays into my tournies and vice versa, and its just -EV. This past weekend was pretty good in terms of cash games, +$500 or so via Ladbrokes & Pokershare short handed 6max games. Either 2/4 or 3/6 limit games and $100nl $200nl. Too bad I could only bust the short stack guys in my nl tables, I guess thats why they were short stacked. I love the Euro centric poker rooms. These two and the B2B network are great for cash games. They bluff for no reason, and its the best feeling when you catch them. My tourney play was non existant, and my sng results were just as bad. Kinda sick of tourney play right now.

Did I skip a chapter?

Good news, I found a leak in my mtt game. Bad news, another waste of time. Once again I final tabled the PokerShare $1500 wsop seat. Once again I blow it, this time in 5th. And once again on a questionable/frustration/impatient call on my part. Final tables, I usually steal a fair number of blinds. Sometimes people fight back, and last night they fought back. And not with baby min raises, they were coming with their whole stack. After two straight unsucessful blind steals with decent holdings, I try it once more UTG with A9s. Another push back, and I decide to call it this time hoping they had a baby A. Turned over 88, and I couldn't hit and was out. I dunno whats wrong with me. I'm extremely confident I can outplay most of my opponents post flop, so why the hell am I risking it to luck preflop?

I got to pickup my HOH vol 2 and reread it again, this time carefully. No point playing these tournies if I'm going to be a donk during the final table. I did get the new HOH vol 3 and the skylansky book in the mail yesterday. One day I'll get reading those. I think I still have about 5 unread books on my shelf.

Have my Lavalife Party Poker final today. Winner gets a trip to Turks & Caicos. Most likely will play for 2nd instead, plasma tv. Trip is cool, but not exactly high on my list of places to visit. Not worth taking vacation time against. Theres also the pocketfives FullTilt tourney. 25 added $200+15 seats for sundays $200k guaranteed. $20 tourney, pass is pocket5s. 8pm est. Will see how many people play before I decide if I want to play or not. Wanted to take Sunday off and read.

I must be a Toronto Maple Leaf fan

The more tournies I play, the more I believe I am the Toronto Maple Leafs of online poker tournaments. I can qualify for any tournament, but when it comes down to the big game, I choke. All that time and $ spent on the subsatellites and the main events gone to waste. Much like watching a season of Sopranos and viewing such a dreadful finale (?) as last night, but thats a different story.

My first tourney was a Poker Share $500 WSOP ME qualifier. Top 2 get seats to the main event, 3rd place gets $5k. Couldn't get into the game, widdled down to low levels, and got frustrated by some luck players who always hit his draw. JJ vs QQ, AKJ flop, this guy kept calling and calling and hit his river T. Ended up in 12th as a result of an impatient call of mine. 6 handed on 2 tables, I was 4th in chips but one of the lower stacks. We just kept firing allins. I held AT in the BB when one of the lower stacks fired another away. Its a call I don't usually make unless I'm a big stack. He turned over 77 and it was good enough. Went out next hand. So no more ME tournies on pokershare, that was the last of the added seats.

My 2nd tourney was the Titan $100k guaranteed. Like the pokershare tourney had no problems satelliting into this one with a $20 sng. Turbo like structures made it hard to play. After the first break the blinds were bigger here than my pokershare tourney which started an hr earlier! No real regrets other than a couple of failed bluffs. Went out with 88 vs KK vs QQ when I was down to 5M or so. Play was pretty weak in this tourney, I dunno if skill factors too much in it though. After the first break, any pot you get involved in pretty much results you in risking 20% of your stack.

With all these tournies my bankroll has remained pretty constant for the past few months now. I think after Feb I was on pace for double my target. Now I'll be happy to just reach it. I haven't played too many cash games lately. Oh well, after July I can forget about the wsop qualifiers and concentrate on making $ again. Taking Monday off from poker again. I think Monday will be permanant day off from Poker. Sometimes Thursday and Saturday as well.

WSOP Qualifying Day

Sunday was my WSOP qualifying day. I had 2 chances at a Main Event seat, and 1 $1500 seat.

PokerStars 500FPP
I thought the max would be 5000 players, but for some reason they decided to not cap it. 7600+ players played! I don't even remember the specifics. I built up my stack, donked it back off. Finished around 1500. For some reason I couldn't concentrate playing this one.

Poker Share $1500 seat
Congratulations to Omenic for winning this one, and securring a seat. He's been playing well lately, and fortunately/unfortunately beat me to a seat! I end of finishing I can't remember 18th or so. Same scenario as above, couldn't really concentrate on this one either.

Poker Share WSOP: ME Seat
1st place won a ME seat, 2nd place was $8k. 32 players. Started at 4pm, I got knocked out in 5th at 10:30pm. Deep stack tourney, 5k chips, 20mins blinds. Man was I disappointed in myself after this. Made a terrible call with KT, but this was due to frustration and a long day in front of the computer. I stole blinds like crazy in this tourney, was pretty sick how I got away with it so often. One weak point in my game I figured out was blind defence though. Whenever I fought back, I won the pot. I just didn't do it enough IMO. With 5 players left one guy didn't want to deal, greedy bastard. So I played 6.5 hrs in this tourney for nothing. I almost can't wait until the wsop happens so I can start playing some $ tournies. Playing all these event qualifiers and not getting rewarded for final tables is starting to take its toll. Best read I made in this tourney, I called a guy with Q high. Surprised the crap out of the other guy who probably folded A high or mini pair.

Need to take a break from poker tonight, even though I want to play in a $1500 qualifier. Couldn't sleep last night, thank goodness for Timmies.

Bubblelicious, Bubble Yum, you get the picture

Wow, what a frustrating night of poker last night. 4 bubbles!!!

Bubble 1
Titan Rio Jackpot Sit N Go. Already won 4 in a row, now going for my 5th. 6 in a row wins the jackpot. Comes down to heads up, and I catch the guy AT vs A9 to take a commanding lead. 88 vs A5 he catches an A. Q7 vs Q5 split pot. Kx vs xx, and he catches one of his x's. I ended up making a questionable 10 outer call, that gave him the chip lead. On my final hand, went in with 87s vs Ax. He hit an A, I made 2 pair, but the board also paired giving him the higher 2 pair.

Bubble 2
Shouldn't have, but on Tilt I played another Rio hoping to at least get the $300 consillation prize for 6 top 2 finishes. Came in 3rd. Was just outflopped when it mattered.

Bubble 3
Poker.com WSOP qualifier. Top 2 make it to the semis, next 2 play again. I came 4th. Can't even remember by outage hand.

Bubble 4
PokerShare $1500 WSOP seat. Top 2 get seats, 3rd gets $450. We end up chopping the prize$ 3-5. I ended up 5th. I like the deep stack tourney structure here, I just screwed it up. I'm 5/5, but still with 8M. MP min raises, which I haven't seen from him before. I have 88 on the SB. With a regular raise I most likely would have went over top of him, but this min raise messed me up. I ended up calling, as did the BB. 975 flop, and I bet out the pot, BB goes over top of me allin. Preflop raise folds so I'm guessing now he prob had something like AT, KQ, KJ, etc. Figure at this point I have to call now, so I did. He flips over 95 for top and bottom pair. No miracles for me. One gripe about pokershare that I do have is its timer clock. You really don't get too much time to act. There was one hand where I had 99, and somebody went over top of me. Ended up timing out before I thought it all through.

Crappy night, even though I ended up $100+. No Poker tonight for sure, I'll probably get back at it on Friday. I don't think I have any scheduled tournies until next week anyways.

Be a Chameleon! SnG: 6max vs Full

I've concluded that I need to do a better job at adapting.

Current Strengths:
Ring games (short handed, NL & FL)
SnG (SH)
MTT

Current Weakness
Ring games (Full table limit and nl)
SnG (Full table, 1 or 2 tables)

Ring games:
Been playing on Poker Share and Poker Stars. Doing well on the 6 max tables at both 3/6 limit and $100nl. Haven't played a full table in a long time, but just listed it there from my poker rewards April play. Was probably playing too many hands there, and bluffing more than I should have. I prefer the more aggressive short handed play where I can take advantage of the tighty whities and catch the maniacs off guard.

Sit n Gos:
This is my biggest discrepency. On Titan 6max sngs, my last 20 I have won 12. Not money, but won at a 60% rate. Additionally I have monied (top 3) in another 2. I guess I don't lose when I'm final 3. 4 of those no placings was when I was on tilt after my failed jackpot win. Now on other sites (qualifiers - full table), Poker Share, Full Contact, Poker Stars, I haven't won anything in a while. Once again I think I'm playing too many hands on the full tables, will have to cut back and see what happens.

Multi Table Tournaments
I think my MTT game is back at a higher level. No first place winnings but have had good placings in May. Last night finished 11th ($210) in the PSO Poker Rewards freeroll, just bubbling out of the final table. Tried a blind steal with A3s as the 2nd shortest stack, but got caught by QQ. Oh well, sometimes you get caught. Blind stealing got me going the whole tourney. Figured out the tities and played against them aggressively. Needed it as I couldn't win races all night. Lost a lot of $ with AK as well. Wanted to reread my Harrington books during my vacation but didn't get a chance to. Ended up reading Book of Bluffs by Matt Lesinger and Kill Phil by Blair Rodman and Lee Nelson. Book of Bluffs is recomended, nice read. Kill Phil wasn't really. Pretty much a book telling you to go allin on most hands. Some sections and points were good, but the rest is just mumbo jumbo IMO.

WPT Canada

Can't wait. If anybody knows of any qualifiers let me know. Eventually I'll put together a full list. This will be my new #1 goal after the wsop has taken place.

Press Release: World Poker Tour Going to CanadaPublished: Thursday, May 04, 2006
Author:

Overlooking One of The World's Natural Wonders, The Niagara Fallsview Casino Will Play Host to October WPT Event

Daniel Negreanu, Gavin Smith, Bill Edler and Evelyn Ng may be the most illustrious Canadian poker players on the world stage, but come October the WORLD POKER TOUR(R) will offer a look at who else might be Canadian stars-in-the-making when the Tour inaugurates its first stop north of the border at the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort. The WPT has selected Canada's luxurious new gaming mecca, overlooking the famous Niagara Falls, as the site of its third annual North American Poker Championship, October 25-29.

The elegant Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort is the premier casino and resort facility in Canada, with 3,000 slot machines, 150 gaming tables and a dedicated poker room, a 368-room luxury hotel, a full-service spa and fitness facility, a 1,500-seat showroom, 30,000 square feet of convention, conference and meeting space, a wide selection of restaurants and boutiques and one of the most famous and spectacular views in the world.

"By staging the North American Poker Championship in this beautiful Canadian casino, we put out the welcome mat for all poker enthusiasts in Canada and truly lay down the gauntlet to see who can reign supreme on the continent," said Steve Lipscomb, CEO and founder of WPT Enterprises, Inc. (Nasdaq: WPTE). "We are thrilled to welcome the Niagara Fallsview to the WPT family and look forward to an inspiring and exciting event that will attract players from both sides of the border."

Niagara Fallsview marks the third international location on the WPT tournament calendar for Season V, joining Paris' Aviation Club (Grand Prix de Paris) and the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas (Pokerstars' Caribbean Adventure).

"All of us at the Fallsview Casino are very excited to be working with the WPT to bring a premiere International Poker event like this to Canada," said Fallsview General Manager Steve Wolstenholme. "Our casino is ready to lay out the red carpet for the WPT, the players, and the fans as they join us here in Niagara Falls. We plan to make the Fallsview Casino Resort the home of the premiere poker events in Canada and will have some other exciting announcements to make in the coming weeks about our plans with the WPT moving forward."

Rio, sucks to be me.

Decided to just go ahead and play my final Rio despite all the temptations. Finished 3rd. No $55k for me, not even a $300 consolation prize for 2nd. And the hand I was eliminated with. AA vs 33. Flopped a 3, dude went allin, and I couldn't fold my AA. Didn't even think about it for a sec, now I'm 2nd guessing myself. Was hoping he had A7. Oh well, guess I have to do it allover again.

Weekend Happenings

First of all, I'd like to congratulate RiverRun on winning the PSO league and earning a WSOP event seat. Great job!

Played some cash games on PokerShare to fulfill a pokersourceonline promo. Up and down, people chase and sometimes they catch. Can't get any good 3/6 limit games there anymore. Settled on mostly $100nl sh, and 1/2 limit sh.

On the tourney front, I was once again close to a WSOP seat but fell short once again. This time I came 4th, but at least I got $60 this time for my 4hrs of play. Played great poker, stayed top 7 in chips from the 1st break and on. Was 2nd/3rd when 4 handed but played too aggressively against Navajo who started playing more aggressively than me! He busted me when he caught his J on the river against my K high. PSO final game came 20th. Donked out which I'll explain later. Qualified for the next round in the UB millionaire challenge. Took 3 hrs to make it to the top 100 out of 1500, but only played it as I was already playing other tournies anyways.

On the Casino front, an ok month. +$40 from InterCasino. +£70 from Littlewoods. -$20 from Casino Glamour when they gave me a 500% reload. Haven't won my $2.5 millionaire club jackpot yet. Haven't even gotten to the final round this month. Thats about it, casino hunting is slowly dying.

My New Pet Peeve
In tournies, i'm running into a lot of players who now use the excuse "I had the odds". First example; blinds are 50/100. Short stack UTG raises allin to $400. UTG+1 calls, Goofball calls (1/4 of his stack), and me the bigger stack calls with 98s. When all was said and done, Goofball wins with Q6. When I ask the Goofball on his reasoning, he's here talking about implied odds and other crap and then says the pot odds were good. Buddy, most scenarios you encounter will give you 2:1 odds. Doesn't mean you call with any 2 cards everytime the pot is good. Oh well I let him be. I got the same scenario later on that tourney when somebody called my allin getting 2:1 with K9. Risking almost 1/2 his stack on that garbage.

One final note, but not to jinx myself, I've now won 5 Rio Jackpot sitngos in a row. Actually got a 2nd before that but noticed in the T&Cs that they have to be done within a 30day period. Right now its at about $45k if I win my 6th. Too nervous to play yesterday, might give it a shot today. Crossing my fingers!

I am Super Bubbleboy!!! I love Steak! Hopefully its rare

This is why my stomach hurts now... can't believe I can still type.

$1 million dollar qualifier
Result = 2nd. Though didn't stand a chance heads up against quackpot, a extremely good player. He had just under $12k, I had about $1600. Winnings = 2% stake I think.

WSOP qualifier
Courtesy of Bluff Magazine. Winner gets a $1500 wsop seat. 2nd gets a chocolate glazed donut. Was always a high stack. Took a risk early on when I called preflop with my JJ. Held up against AK. Made some unusual plays with Arag. Me raising preflop, shorter stacks pushing afterwards. My reasoning behind calling, the chance to eliminate 2 good players without hurting too much of my stacks. I actually won a lot of races throughout the night ... that is before heads up took over.

Final Table
Never had my allins called, didn't have too many of my preflop raises called. Some dimwit decided to be greedy and forfit the opportunity to get 1% stake from the winner. He got knocked out 4th, after getting lucky and staying alive forever. Bad beat for Jeremy W when his KK was overcome by Ax, knocking him out in 3rd.

Headsup
Yukon867 and I decide on an extra 5% stake in eachother, for 6% in total. He started out as just under a 2:1 favourite. Here is heads up play, bolded ones in particular

Conclusion
I thought I played an awesome headsup game, luck just wasn't on my side. Tiltish on my 77 reraise allin. My KT hand I could have slowplayed a bit more. JJ late I could have just limped in, but figured I've been raising most of the time anyways, one day he'll play back. A3 vs T8 could have raised allin preflop, though I wanted a call. AJ vs A4 would have turned it around in my favour again.

So two 2nds within an hr of each other, and nothing but steak to show for it. Better be some good damn steak!!!
